A very good friend of mine recently told me about a 40mm Bofors gun he had
found in a small town near where he lives. He was told upon inquiry that
the guy who owned it would never sell it and that it was a waste of time
trying. I thought what the heck, I will call him. I told him about my collection
and the desire to have and restore it. He said he would think about it.
Three days later he called back and invited me to have a closer look and
make him an offer. So, with my good friend Gary, he restored Rob's truck
on the customer page this month, and my chief inspector, Braden, we were
off. Braden took one look at it and said, "Cool Dad". Curt, the
owner showed up about 10 minutes after we got there and we got the history
of the thing. He bought two of them in 1966 for his truck stop as advertisement
for $300 each. He traded one to another collector in the seventies for a
cival war cannon and held on to this one until last Sunday. I wish I could
have paid the $300, not to be. It is now mine and here are the photos of
the retrieval.
Traversing mechanism intact, but missing the seat. They had to chain it
up so the kids wouldn't spin it around. Once we removed the chain, you could
spin it with a light push. Amazing after sitting in the weather since 1966.
